We are ordinary people who have received grace, gathered in Melbourne. We long to live out Christ's love in everyday life — a steady companionship to one another, and a blessing to our neighbourhood.

New Hope Community Church meets in Burwood, in Melbourne's east — Chinese and local believers united in Christ. Preaching is in Mandarin with professional live English interpretation, and through most days of the week we are together: reading Scripture, praying, singing, serving, and going out with the gospel. The name "New Hope" points to the hope we have received: God has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead (1 Peter 1:3).

We belong to the World Olivet Assembly — a global fellowship of evangelical churches that exists for the advancement of world mission, joined through regional and national assemblies. In this region we belong to the Olivet Assembly of Oceania. "Olivet" means the Mount of Olives, where the Lord taught his farewell sermon and prayed at Gethsemane. Our mission begins in Melbourne, reaches across Australia, and goes on to the ends of the earth.

Rooted in biblical truth, we seek to build a spiritual home full of love and welcome — bringing the light of the gospel into every life and relationship, offering rest and renewal.

We share one mission with the assembly we belong to: to proclaim God's word, to help others come to faith in Jesus Christ, and to seek the fulfilment of the Great Commission the Lord has entrusted to all believers — holding the unity of the body of Christ upon evangelical faith and tradition drawn from the Bible.

The vision rests on God's own word: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life." (John 3:16) And the Lord prayed for oneness: "that they may all be one; even as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be one in us; that the world may believe that you sent me." (John 17:21)

In Melbourne, this vision lands on three concrete things: bringing the gospel to the city — on the streets of Box Hill and the university campuses; making disciples — a visible road of growth from enquirer to co-worker; and taking part in world mission — some sent to the front, others holding up the work from behind.

We believe Christ is the sole head of the church; offices in the church are exercised in trust, through the prayerful choosing of the congregation — authority belongs to God, and to no one else.

Becoming a member follows a clear road: enquirer, registered member, committed member, co-worker — each step with its course and its company. After baptism into the body of Christ, the everyday shape of committed membership is simple: continuing steadfastly in the gatherings and the serving, accountable to one another in love.

Our congregation governs its own affairs, and through the membership system is joined to the Oceania assembly and to churches around the world, sharing in the greater vision of God's Kingdom. Covenanted members sign in to the workspace to take part in the serving and building of the church.
